BUENOS AIRES, 16 November 2022. – The Philippine Embassy in Buenos Aires virtually participated in a business mission jointly organized by the ASEAN Committee in Buenos Aires (ACBA), and the MERCOSUR-ASEAN Chamber of Commerce (MACC) held in the province of Córdoba, from November 7 - 9, 2022.

The three-day business mission to Córdoba commenced with “Cordoba Looks at the Pacific: Potentials of the ASEAN region,” held at the Bank of Córdoba (Bancor). Present during the said briefing were representatives of the ProCórdoba Trade Promotion Agency, the Chamber of Foreign Trade of Córdoba (Cacec), and the Secretariat of Regional Integration and International Relations of the Province. A five-minute video presentation on Doing Business in the Philippines was presented during the said briefing.

ACBA was hosted by the Universidad Catolica de Cordoba for an open forum entitled ASEAN- Oportunidades y desafíos (Opportunities and Challenges). “The ASEAN economic community 2015 is a huge market for goods and services with a population of more than 680 million people and total current GDP of $3.2 trillion as of 2021,” Chargé d’affaires Jason J. A. Anasarias remarked during the said forum. The forum ended with the unveiling of the ASEAN Corner at the UCC Library with the donations of books by the members of the ACBA.

During the Cordoba visit, ACBA and MACC likewise visited various companies operating in the province and held a press conference attended by local media. The province of Cordoba is a manufacturing, agricultural, and logistics hub in Argentina and the second-largest provincial economy in Argentina.

The ASEAN Committee in Buenos Aires is composed of the Embassies of the ASEAN member states in Argentina, namely Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, and the Philippines. The ACBA actively promotes awareness and greater understanding of the ASEAN and opportunities within the ASEAN through a wide array of cultural and economic activities. On the other hand, the MERCOSUR-ASEAN Chamber of Commerce is a bi-regional Chamber of Commerce that identifies trade opportunities between the ASEAN and MERCOSUR (Southern Common Market) blocs.
