PH Foreign Service Institute Director-General Cariño Participates in 48th Annual Meeting of the International Forum on Diplomatic Training

NEW DELHI, 21 November 2022 – The Philippines’ Foreign Service Institute Director-General Jose Maria Cariño participated in the 48th Annual Meeting of the International Forum on Diplomatic Training (IFDT) held on 14-18 November 2022 in New Delhi, India.
The forum brought together more than 50 Heads of Diplomatic Training Academies, Deans of Academic Institutions from over 40 countries, as well as notable participation of panelists, moderators, and foreign affairs experts from IFDT, United Nations, senior officials of the Government of India, former Ambassadors, and members of academia and thinktanks.
Notable officials from the Indian government also graced the event, including Minister of State for External Affairs, Shri V. Muraleedharan, Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture, Smt. Meenakashi Lekhi, and the Ministry of External Affairs Secretary (Economic Relations), Shri Dammu Ravi.
The 48th Annual Meeting of the IFDT is hosted by India’s Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). IFDT is a premier global forum that brings together more than 70 diplomatic training institutes and academic institutions from around the world. This year’s theme is “Diplomacy for Development” which centered on equipping diplomats for future challenges, socio-economic transformation, health diplomacy, negotiation strategies, climate change, and cultural diplomacy. The forum also tackled contemporary topics relevant to the current global issues, such as reformed multilateralism to address global challenges; an inclusive, sustainable, and resilient world; health cooperation through regional and international efforts in a post-pandemic world; and building partnerships for comprehensive development; the effect of technology in reshaping the world, among others.
In her remarks on the event’s closing ceremony, Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture, Smt. Lekhi mentioned the “multifaceted role of diplomats in today’s complex and challenging world.”
The IFDT, established in 1972, is an annual meeting of the diplomatic training institutes and academic institutions from various countries dedicated to studying international relations and diplomacy. IFDT’s annual meeting is hosted by member institutions and academies devoted to the discussion of issues of modern diplomacy and trends in diplomatic education. END
