KUALA LUMPUR, 21 November 2022 – Ladies of the Philippine Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, led by Madam Ma. Victoria “Vicky” Jose, Patron for ASEAN Ladies’ Circle (ALC) Philippines and spouse of Philippine Ambassador to Malaysia Charles Jose, hosted an afternoon of Filipino songs and dances for the ALC in Kuala Lumpur on 17 November 2022 at the Intercontinental Hotel.

With the theme “Kulturang Sayawit ng Pilipino” or “Song and Dance Culture of the Philippines,” the event gathered a hundred participants from various ALC-member countries.

“Music has been deeply ingrained in the culture of the Filipinos”, Madame Vicky noted in her opening remarks. “We hope we could share with you a part of the musicality of the Filipinos through dancing and singing, and give you a glimpse of our culture in the field of music.”

The event was graced by Datin Soraya Dato Hamid (Patron, ALC Brunei), Madam Chan Somphosneary (Patron, ALC  Cambodia), Madam Kiki Hermono (Patron, ALC  Indonesia), Datin Lim Bee Ling (Alternate Patron, ALC Malaysia), Ms. Kuin Thiri (Alternate Patron, ALC Myanmar), Madam Jayanthi Menon (Patron, ALC Singapore, and President of ALC in Kuala Lumpur), Chargé d'Affaires Piyapin Niyomrerks (Acting  Patron, ALC Thailand), and Madam Khuat Thi Hong Hanh (Patron, ALC Vietnam).

To showcase Filipino talent and love for music, The Philippine Embassy Chorale serenaded the audience with renowned Filipino songs, “Isang Lahi” and “Kay Ganda ng Ating Musika.”  The chorale also sung a classic Malaysian song entitled “Getaran Jiwa.” The Philippine Embassy dancers, on the other hand, impressed the audience with their own renditions of the kundiman song “Sarung Banggi” and the modern Filipino pop song, “Tala,” where guests were invited to dance along.

Aside from entertaining the audience, the ALC members went home with special prizes and treats, including personalized gifts by Madam Vicky Jose, premium Philippine coconut products, souvenirs from Tourism Philippines, and snacks from URC Snack Foods. A grand prize, Madam Vicky’s very own watercolor painting of the national flowers of the 10 ASEAN countries, was also awarded to the winner of a lucky draw. The guests partook of a simple afternoon tea and native Filipino delicacies.

The ASEAN Ladies’ Circle in Kuala Lumpur, which aims to promote mutual understanding and encourage cultural exchange among its members, is a non-profit organization composed of women from ASEAN countries with membership sponsored by their respective embassies or the Malaysian Foreign Ministry.  END
