PHNOM PENH 05 December 2022 – The Philippine Embassy in Cambodia participated in the 2022 ASEAN Village held on 25-27 November 2022 at the National University of Management (NUM) in Phnom Penh.

Organized by the Cambodian Youth Assembly and supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MFAIC), as well as the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts (MCFA), the event celebrated Cambodia’s Chairmanship of the ASEAN Summits 2022, promoted cultural exchanges among member countries, and raised awareness of ASEAN’s diverse cultural heritage among Cambodian nationals and international visitors.

During the event, the Embassy showcased the Philippines’ traditional culture of weaving and embroidery, displaying samples of traditional attires in jusi, pina and silk, and fabrics/textiles from the Cordilleras and Southern Mindanao.  Also displayed were posters of Philippine tourism destinations.  Give-aways include Philippine-made candies and biscuits.  Another booth sold Philippine goods, such as food/snacks/beverages, beauty and health products.

At the event’s Opening Ceremony presided by Secretary of State of the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts Menh Kossony on 26 November 2022, the Filipino-led Phnom Penh Chorale Ensemble rendered a song number.  The event also featured the ASEAN-member countries’ traditional games and music.

The program also included a fashion show of ASEAN member countries’ traditional attires. The Cordillerans in Cambodia (CiC), a Filipino organization under the Samahan ng mga Pilipino sa Cambodia (SAMAPI), represented the Philippines wearing Kalinga woven materials, which was much applauded by the audience, mostly composed of students from various universities in Phnom Penh.
