SANTIAGO 13 DECEMBER 2022 -  The Philippine Embassy in Chile capped its trade, tourism and cultural programs and activities for 2022 by participating in the first-ever Valdivia Nautica Expo held on 06 December 2022  at the said municipality’s Parque Saval. In line with the theme, the Embassy specifically promoted top Philippine maritime sites Palawan, Boracay and Puerto Galera as prospective travel destinations for Chilean nautical and maritime enthusiasts.  The Philippine Embassy booth also displayed Manila-Galleon ship replicas, capiz-based artisanal crafts and other seashell products throughout the 4-day event.

The recent Valdivia Nautica Expo was principally organized by the Valdivia Yacht Club in collaboration with the Regional Government of Los Rios and the Municipal Government of Valdivia. The nautical expo was the first of its kind in Chile and featured nautical and maritime enterprises, experts and stakeholders targeting to import/export industry-related products as well as to visit select maritime destinations globally. The event also served as an opportunity for the Philippines to meet with a local representative of Philippine-based companies Fortune Net & Twine and Nettex Manufacturing and Export Corp. to discuss the value of having a free trade agreement between the Philippines and Chile soon. Joining the Philippines during the event were the foreign missions and enterprises from the Czech Republic and Dominican Republic.

Speaking during the official inauguration of the Valdivia Nautica Expo, First Secretary and Consul Dennis John Briones highlighted the special partnership between the Philippine Embassy and the City of Valdivia, which started during ASEAN Week 2020 and continues to this year with Encuentro Internacional 2022 and the Valdivia Nautica Expo. He thanked the Government and people of Valdivia for always having the Philippines in mind, and invited eager patrons to visit the Philippine booth to see and sample its best maritime offerings.

Organizers of the Valdivia Nautica Expo informed the Embassy of its plans to repeat and further expand next year’s event with the participation of even more foreign missions and industries. Also representing the Embassy during the Valdivia Nautica Expo were Economic Officer and Administrative Assistant Ms. Josefina Abenoja, and local hires Ms. Paula Rodriguez and Mr. Pedro Cornejo.
