 PH Consulate Manado Officials Meet Local Officials and Businessmen in North Kalimantan

MANADO 20 November 2022 – Philippine Consul General in Manado Angelica C. Escalona and Vice Consul Manuel C. Ayap met with local officials and businessmen in Tarakan City, North Kalimantan Province from 14 to 16 November 2022 to discuss trade opportunities and prospects for cooperation between Tarakan City and North Kalimantan Province and counterparts in Mindanao.

During the visit, the Philippine Consulate officials had meetings with Tarakan City officials headed by Mayor Khairul, North Kalimantan officials led by Provincial Trade Agency Head Hasriyani and representatives of the Tarakan City Chamber of Commerce (KADIN), Association of the Indonesian Employers (APINDO), and Association of the Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs (HIPMI).

The Tarakan City Port is frequented by Philippine boats that pick up Indonesian exports. It is located in the region covered by Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) initiatives to develop intra-region shipping routes to boost growth in trade, investments, and tourism.

Accompanied by Philippine Liaison Officer to the Philippines-Indonesia Border Committee Commander Hernan O. Dagunan PN, Consul General Escalona and Vice Consul Ayap visited the Philippine Border Crossing Station in Tarakan which is manned by PO1 Christopher A Dazal PN, Border Crossing Officer (BCO). There are two other Philippine Border Crossing Stations in Indonesia located in Miangas Island and Marore Island.

The visit to Tarakan City also provided an opportunity for a consular visit to four (4) Filipino serving sentence in the corrections facility in Tarakan City. END
