OUMWA ATN Mission Team Meets Filipino Community in Jordan, Conducts Hospital and Jail Visits

AMMAN 21 December 2022 — The ATN Mission Team to Jordan led by Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers’ Affairs (OUMWA) Assistant Secretary Paul Raymund Cortes successfully held their working visit to the Kingdom last December 11-15, 2022 to meet the Filipino community and distribute care packages and financial assistance to distressed OFWs in jails, hospitals, and Embassy shelter.

Assistant Secretary Cortes led the gift-giving to the detainees in Juweidah and Nadara Detention facilities on December 12, 2022. The following day, the delegation went to Marka Specialty Hospital to visit and distribute gifts to Filipino patients with medical conditions. The team assured them of the Philippine government’s support while their cases are ongoing, and while they recover from their illnesses, respectively.

The team then met with Filipino community leaders at the Bayanihan Hall of the Philippine Embassy where Assec Cortes shared the government’s thrust of continuous assistance to migrant workers anywhere in the world in accordance with the host government’s laws and regulations. The meeting was also a venue for the leaders to learn about the ATN Unit’s accomplishments for the year. The discussion was led by Third Secretary and Vice Consul and ATN Unit Head Sheila Marie Andales. The leaders likewise expressed their appreciation for the Embassy’s efforts in promoting and securing the welfare of Filipino workers in the Kingdom.

To cap off the visit, the delegation visited the Embassy shelter on December 15, 2022, where they distributed financial assistance, care packages, and gifts to around 28 wards. It was followed by a lively community singing of Christmas songs and a lunch with the wards.

Joining Assistant Secretary Cortes during the 5-day visit to the Kingdom were the following OUMWA officials: Acting Director Lorenz Fernand Dantes, and ATN Officers Mr. Anselmo Ayos, Ms. Edna Padilla and Ms. Nabilah Maruhom. END
