DFA-OUMWA Delegation Meets Filipino Community and Assists 18 Distressed Filipinos in Returning Home

MANAMA 15 December 2022 – A delegation from the Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs (OUMWA) of the DFA arrived in Bahrain on 12 December 2022 as part of its ATN Mission to the Middle East, including the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The delegation was headed by Senior Special Assistant Roy B. Ecraela. The delegation met with representatives from the Filipino Community on 13 December 2022. The event, entitled, “Kumustahan sa Pasuguan”, aimed to update the representatives from the Filipino Community on the services provided by DFA-OUMWA and the Embassy to Overseas Filipinos and the creation of the Migrant Workers Office (MWO) under the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW). The delegation also answered questions during the open forum. The highlight of the event is the distribution of financial assistance to distressed OFs, including wards at the Embassy’s shelter.

The event was attended by various Filipino community leaders and volunteers and distressed OFs. They extended their appreciation for the Department’s efforts to reach out to Overseas Filipinos in the Kingdom.

The Philippine delegation’s visit to the Kingdom of Bahrain concluded with the successful repatriation of 18 distressed Filipino nationals, including minors, undocumented OFWs and two infants, on 14 December 2022. Repatriates were on the same commercial flight as the DFA delegation’s return flight to Manila.

The Philippine Embassy facilitated the repatriation, provided welfare assistance, and shouldered the airfare of all the repatriates through the DFA’s ATN Funds. END
