MOSCOW, 29 December 2022 – Philippine Embassy in Moscow Deputy Chief of Mission and Consul General Robert O. Ferrer, Jr. delivered a lecture entitled “Moscow and Manila: Past, Present and Future – Connecting the Past and the Present with People’s Hearts Reaching from Moscow to Manila” to the students and faculty of the Luzhkov Moscow City University of Management (MGUU) on 21 December 2022.
MGUU is one of the prominent universities in Moscow that caters to students of political science, management, and public administration. The university was founded specifically to educate and rain future leaders and administrators of Moscow and other Russian cities
A similar lecture was delivered DCM Ferrer on the sidelines of the 7th Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) held in Vladivostok in September 2022. After the lecture at the 7th EEF, Ms. Anastasia Sibileva of the City of Moscow’s Department for External Economic and International Relations invited DCM Ferrer to deliver the same presentation in Moscow.
The presentation, which was also attended by officials from the Moscow City Department for External Economic and International Relations, discussed similarities between the Philippines’ and Russia’s histories, specifically on commonalities between Manila and Moscow experiences throughout their respective long histories. DCM Ferrer also cited common governance and rapid urbanization challenges in which Moscow and Manila could learn from each other.
Following the presentation, tourism videos of the City of Manila were played to show the students Manila’s Christmas season in view of Moscow’s full-tilt preparations for Christmas and the New Year holidays.
The presentation is related to a planned visit of a delegation from the city of Moscow to Manila in January 2023. Preparations are under way to strengthen Manila-Moscow ties on medical and health cooperation, culture and the performing arts, and education, among other areas.
An open forum was held after the presentation, where students asked DCM Ferrer on his insights and personal experiences as a diplomat in Moscow. DCM Ferrer lauded the city of Moscow’s infrastructure which has made mobility seamless, as well as the city’s affinity with culture and the arts.
The presentation is part of a growing series of presentations on history, culture, and the arts that form part of the Philippine Embassy in Moscow’s cultural and economic diplomacy initiatives. END
