PH Joins Conference on Turkish-ASEAN Economic and Trade Relations in Istanbul

ISTANBUL, 15 December 2022 – Philippine Ambassador to Türkiye Maria Elena P. Algabre joined the Turkish Foreign Economic Relations Board’s (DEIK) Conference entitled “New Perspective on Türkiye-ASEAN Economic and Trade Relations” in Istanbul last 14 December 2022.   

During her remarks at the conference, Ambassador Algabre said that enhanced economic and trade  relations between ASEAN and its external partners, including with Türkiye,  was an integral component towards the realization of a global ASEAN. She added that both ASEAN and Türkiye had particular strengths and could offer opportunities for each other. Both have strategic access to key markets, and their economies are expected to grow well above the global average. A partnership between ASEAN and Türkiye could  help foster global integration and cooperation.

Officials from the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) and the Ministry of Trade (MoT), Ambassadors and Officials from ASEAN Embassies and the Chambers of Commerce and Industries, and representatives from the private sectors attended the conference.  Several Turkish Ambassadors assigned in ASEAN countries also spoke during the event, including Turkish Ambassador to the Philippines Niyazi Evren Akyol. Ambassador Aykol shared business opportunities for Turkish companies in the Philippines in fields like construction, defense, retail, and energy and mentioned, in particular, Gulermak, which won a tender for the construction of a portion of North-South Commuter Railway project. He strongly encouraged companies to establish representation offices in the Philippines. 

The DEIK Conference was co-organized with the ASEAN Ankara Committee, chaired by Ambassador Apirat Sugondhabhirom of the Kingdom of Thailand. END
