PH Consulate General in Sydney Celebrates 2023 Philippine Children’s Week

Childrens Week 1

Before the start of the activity, Consul General Charmaine Rowena C. Aviquivil gives a brief welcoming remarks emphasizing the activity’s importance.

SYDNEY, 06 February 2023 – In celebration of the Philippine Children’s Week every fourth week of January, two short stories were presented through storytelling and role playing in collaboration with Mrs. Jinky Marsh on 24 January 2023 at the Philippine Consulate General in Sydney, Australia.

Mrs. Marsh together with Mrs. Isabel Delgado and selected Australian-Filipino children enacted the stories “The Moth and Rizal” and “The Monkey and the Turtle.” “The Moth and Rizal” featured young Dr. Jose P. Rizal and his mother Mrs. Teodora Alonzo, while “The Monkey and the Turtle” is a story popularized and illustrated by Dr. Rizal.

In her welcome remarks, Philippine Consul General to Sydney Charmaine Rowena Aviquivil highlighted the importance of the activity for the children to learn about their Filipino heritage and folklore, preserve Filipino heritage and nationalism, and hopefully kindle love for the Philippines. She added that children also serve as cultural ambassadors.

Mrs. Marsh, on the other hand, mentioned that the activity is the manifestation of their love for the Philippines. It may be noted that the Philippine Consulate General in Sydney has also partnered with Mrs. Marsh in January 2021 in observing the Philippine Children’s Week through the Bigkas Serye event. END
