AMMAN 06 February 2023 — The Union of Overseas Bangsamoro (UOB) Men and Ladies chapters called on Philippine Ambassador Wilfredo C. Santos on 02 February 2023, at the Bayanihan Hall of the Philippine Embassy.
It was the first meeting between the UOB officers and Ambassador Santos, who gladly welcomed them to the Embassy, where according to him, is the Filipino community’s “second home”. He then recognized the important roles the UOB members play not just as Filipino students but also as representatives of the Philippines to Jordan. Ambassador Santos emphasized that given the privilege to study in a foreign country, they have a high responsibility to strictly follow the laws and social practices of the Kingdom.
“This is a tall responsibility but it is one that we in the Philippine Embassy expect from all of you, our students and as members of the Filipino youth who represent the hopes and future of our country”, the Ambassador said.
UOB Secretary Dr. Darussalam Tapsi then took the opportunity to introduce their organization to Ambassador Santos and other officers of the Embassy. He shared that UOB is composed of around 600 members, most of whom are students in various Universities across Jordan. They belong to different Muslim tribes from various provinces in Southern Philippines.
Mr. Tapsi also gave updates of their present situation as well as their future plans. According to him, they are one with the larger Muslim community in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in promoting peace and harmony between Christians and Muslims, in any part of the world.
The Embassy likewise updated them of its present and future projects, and provided them with the right consular information. They were highly encouraged to avail the Embassy’s consular services especially as the Consular Section is open every first Friday of the month.
The meeting served as a good opportunity for the exchanges of ideas between the Embassy and the Filipino Muslim community in Jordan, represented by the UOB. A simple lunch capped off the meeting. END
