“We cannot talk of regional security without maritime security,” said Chargé d’affaires Indhira C. Bañares during the luncheon meeting of the Heads of Mission of the ASEAN Committee in Prague and the Embassy of the Republic of Korea with Director Marek Libricky of the Asia-Pacific Department of the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the Korean Embassy on 07 February 2023.

CDA Bañares stressed that maritime security, one of the major priorities of the Philippines in the Indo-Pacific region, is a common interest of all the countries represented in the meeting as it affects economic security.  As the Czech Republic looks to the region to expand its market for goods and its geographical source for raw materials, freedom of navigation in important sea lanes has to be ensured.

The meeting discussed the synergies in political and economic security among the Czech Strategy for Cooperation with the Indo-Pacific, Korea’s Strategy for a Free, Peaceful and Prosperous Indo-Pacific Region, and the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific. END
