ASEAN Committee in Brasilia Visits the State of Goiás to Further Economic Ties

BRASILIA 16 February 2023 — Philippine Ambassador to Brazil Joseph Gerard B. Angeles joined the ASEAN Committee in Brasilia (ABC) in visiting the state of Goiás with the aim of strengthening trade relations between the ASEAN and the state of Goiás on 10-11 February 2023.

Heads of missions of the seven ASEAN member states in Brasilia met with Goiás Governor Ronaldo Caiado; Secretaries of the state’s various ministries, the Federation of Trade in Goods, Services and Tourism of the State of Goiás (Fecomercio); and site visit to Estância Tamburil (cattle ranch).

During the meetings, Ambassador Angeles highlighted the growing trade relations and economic ties between the Philippines and Brazil. He further acknowledged Goiás’ success in agricultural production and innovation, particularly through the pandemic, and expressed interest in what the Philippines can learn and adapt from the State’s best practices in agricultural innovation, research, and development.

Known for its agriculture innovation, trade relation between ASEAN and the state of Goiás continues to increase despite the pandemic. Aside from the trade and agricultural agenda, the state of Goiás and the ASEAN group also expressed an interest in cooperation in the areas of culture, education, and technology.

The ABC is composed of the following ASEAN member states: Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. END
