Filipino Professor Maximo Q. Mejia, Jr. Selected as Incoming President of the World Maritime University (WMU) in Malmö

STOCKHOLM, 06 March 2023 – The International Maritime University (IMO) announced that following a competitive selection process, Filipino Professor Maximo Q. Mejia, Jr. has been selected as the incoming President of the World Maritime University (WMU) in Malmö, Sweden. He will succeed current President Dr. Cleopatra Doumbia-Henry when her term expires on 29 June 2023. 

Professor Mejia is currently the Director of the PhD Program and an Associate Academic Dean of the university. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Political Sciences from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland and a Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy from the Fletcher School at Tufts University in the United States. He then applied for a Master’s Programme in Maritime Safety Administration from the WMU, which he completed in 1994. He has a Licentiate of Engineering and a Ph.D. from Lund University. 

He formerly served as Administrator of the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) of the Philippines from 2013 to 2016. END
