Deepening PH-Japan Relations Highlighted at the 39th Joint Meeting of Economic Cooperation Committees of the Philippines and Japan
TOKYO 16 March 2023 – Ambassador-designate Mylene J. Garcia-Albano spoke on deepening Philippines-Japan economic relations at the 39th Joint Meeting of Economic Cooperation Committees of the Philippines and Japan held on 02 March 2023 in Tokyo.
The high-profile business meeting convenes annually to promote cooperation, trade and investment, and tourism. There were substantive discussions on opportunities and challenges, including on sustainability, as both countries work towards meeting the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Mr. Teruo Asada is the Chair for the Japan-Philippines Economic Cooperation Committee (JPECC), while Mr. Gerard B. Sanvictores leads the Philippines-Japan Economic Cooperation Committee (PHILJEC).
“This meeting comes at an opportune time following the successful official Visit of the President, His Excellency Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr., which contributed to strengthening the foundations of our economic environment,” the Ambassador-designate remarked.
Commercial Counsellor Dita Angara-Mathay, representing Trade Secretary Alfredo E. Pascual, gave a keynote presentation and reiterated the Philippine government’s commitment to provide an enabling environment for Japanese businesses. “We will keep our covenant with Japanese businesses to create sustainable, inclusive, green economies based on mutual respect and shared prosperity,” Commercial Counsellor Angara-Mathay stated.
