BRUSSELS 17 March 2023 – Philippine Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium Jaime Victor B. Ledda presented his Letters of Credentials to His Majesty King Philippe, the King of the Belgians, in a ceremony held at the Royal Palace of Brussels on 15 March 2023. Ambassador Ledda was accompanied by Minister and Consul Susana Maria L. Mendiola, First Secretary and Consul Charles Andrei P. Macaspac, and Third Secretary and Vice Consul Ma. Filonila T. Alcaraz-Arguelles.
During his audience with the King, Ambassador Ledda cited the recently signed Philippines-Belgium Joint Plan of Action as a framework for bilateral cooperation and direction for the future of relations. The Ambassador also expressed hope for Belgium to again organize a princely economic mission to the Philippines as the last such mission was led by the King himself in 1996 back when he was the Crown Prince then. The role of ASEAN centrality on political developments in the region was also discussed.
For his part, King Philippe recalled his trip to the Philippines for the princely mission. He was also pleased to have met with President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. during the President’s working visit to Belgium for the ASEAN-EU Commemorative Summit in December 2022 as well as at the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland in January 2023. The King likewise expressed concern on the impact of climate change in the global environment, especially for vulnerable countries such as the Philippines. Both King Philippe and Ambassador Ledda reaffirmed to continue working to maintain the strong bilateral relations between the two countries.
To mark the official start of his term as Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium, Ambassador Ledda formally launched his official Twitter handle @AmbJVBLedda signifying the renewed push of the Philippine Embassy and Mission in Brussels to further engage with its stakeholders online. END
