PH Embassy in Damascus Repatriates Last Four Distressed OFWs in Embassy Shelter

DAMASCUS 21 March 2023 – The Philippine Embassy in Damascus repatriates four (4) more distressed OFWs, emptying the Embassy’s shelter after 9 months.

In yet another achievement of Damascus PE, four (4) human trafficking victims were assisted in going home, after a series of negotiations with the host government. The 4 OFWs were illegally brought into Syria by illegal recruiters and sought the shelter of the Embassy after getting maltreated by employers.

The four OFWs, who arrived at the Embassy’s shelter only a few days apart from each other, are going home together. This is the first time that the Embassy shelter is emptied since June 2022.

The Embassy has also coordinated with agency partners in the Philippines such as the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) and Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) for livelihood and social welfare assistance once they arrive in the Philippines.
