OTTAWA 23 MARCH 2023 – The Embassy of the Philippines in Canada joined Filipino restaurants throughout Canada in a hybrid press conference led by the Philippine Consulate General in Calgary to officially launch the second iteration of the Filipino Restaurant Month in Canada (FRMC) on 20 March 2023.

A project conducted in cooperation with the Philippine Consulates General in Vancouver, Calgary, and Toronto, and in partnership with the Department of Tourism and the Department of Trade and Industry, Filipino Restaurant Month brings focus to the rich diversity of Filipino cuisine available through the various Filipino restaurants in Canada.

A total of 42 restaurants representing the provinces of Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Quebec, and Saskatchewan are participating in Filipino Restaurant Month by offering prix fixe menus to its customers this April. In Eastern Canada, six restaurants have joined this event,

namely, Junior Filipino (Montreal, QC), Tinape (Bedford, NS), Silong Express (Halifax, NS), Sinaing (St. John’s, NL), Lola’s Kitchen and Tamis Café (Ottawa, ON).

In her opening remarks, Philippine Ambassador-designate to Canada Maria Andrelita S. Austria highlighted FRMC’s aims to create a Philippine experience for those who are longing for the Philippines and for those who have never been to the country. She invited everyone to dine and enjoy the Filipino food to be offered by the different participating restaurants across Canada during the whole month of April. “Through our cuisine, our innate hospitality and hardwork, we hope to provide a glimpse of our diverse, unique and rich Filipino cuisine and culture and inspire you to want to replicate the experience by regularly visiting the participating restaurant, trying your hand in Philippine cuisine or booking your flights to the Philippines. We open our home and our hearts to you as you sample Filipino cuisine.”

Ms. Liza Sare, owner of one of the participating restaurants in Ottawa, also shared her experience in joining the FRMC and introduced her restaurant, Tamis Café.

The hybrid launch of the FRMC was simultaneously held in Ottawa, Vancouver, Calgary, and Toronto. The Philippine Embassy in Canada and the Philippine Consulates General were joined by participating restaurants, media personnel, members of the diplomatic corps, and other guests. END
