BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, 27 March 2023 – The Philippine Embassy in Brunei Darussalam brought beauty, dreaming, and romance to Brunei with the special movie screening of the critically-acclaimed Filipino musical “Mula sa Buwan” at the Philippine Diplomatic Residence in the evening of 24 March 2023.

“Mula sa Buwan", “From the Moon” in Filipino, is an original Filipino musical by Filipino director and playwright Pat Valera and  songwriter William Elvin Manzano.  It reimagines Edmond Rostand’s classic Cyrano de Bergerac in 1940s Manila during World War II.   The film is an adaptation of the popular musical created in 2010.

Philippine Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam, Marian Jocelyn R. Tirol- Ignacio, invited the audience to journey from the moon and back through the magic of musical theater, and spoke of the centuries old tradition in the Philippines.

Onscreen, cast members of “Mula sa Buwan” addressed their Bruneian audience with personal messages of welcome and appreciation. The special screening was attended by over 40 young participants from 15 major educational institutions and organizations active in the live music and theater scene in Brunei Darussalam.

The screening of “Mula sa Buwan” is a first in a series of collaborations under the “Friends of the Sentro Rizal" initiative of the Philippine Embassy’s Cultural Diplomacy Program which promotes a deeper appreciation of Filipino culture and the arts to a young Bruneian audience, and holds to a larger vision of promoting understanding and mutual respect between the Philippines and Brunei through cultural exchanges that bridge differences and build connections that transcend borders.
