SHANGHAI, 28 March 2023 – The Philippines continues to dominate the Chinese pineapple market, with Del Monte Philippines Inc. (DMPI) and other suppliers at the vanguard.

This was the welcome assessment of DMPI President and COO Luis F. Alejandro, as he called on the Philippine Consulate General and Philippine Trade and Investment Center (PTIC) in Shanghai on 21 March 2023. With him were Mr. Marco Deo B. Verdeflor, Director, Fresh Commercial Operations, S&W Fresh Pineapples; Ms. Tan Chooi Khim, Group Head, International Commercial Operations, S&W Fine Foods International Ltd.; and Mr. Lin Meng Yao, Commercial Manager (China) of S&W Fine Foods.

They were received by Philippine Consul General in Shanghai Josel F. Ignacio, Consul John Francis S. Herrera and PTIC-Shanghai Head Mario C. Tani.

Mr. Alejandro and team were in China for a market visit and to renew ties with partners and distributors, after three years of COVID-19 travel restrictions.

In 2022, China imported 200,874 metric tons of fresh Philippine pineapples, equivalent to a market-dominating 95% share of all of China’s fresh pineapple imports. The Philippines also continued to perform well in the canned pineapple segment.

PCG and PTIC congratulated DMPI on its many gains over 90 years of operation and its ventures in China, and exchanged views on sustaining the Philippines’ market leadership. END
