BUENOS AIRES, 29 March 2023 – The Philippines promoted Filipino cuisine, culture, and tourism through its participation in the ASEAN Bazaar on 18 March 2023. The ASEAN Bazaar is an annual event organized by the ASEAN Committee in Buenos Aires (ACBA), comprised of the Embassies of the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Promoting Philippine pop music, the Philippines’ cultural performances featured a dance number of Lea Salonga’s “Kanta Pilipinas” performed by members of the International Youth Fellowship (IYF) and a live song and dance rendition of “Pinoy Ako” by Orange and Lemons led by Mr. Niño Rey Galisanao, Ms. Cheryl Metillo and members of the Filipino community in Argentina. In between performances, the Philippines showcased the evolution of Original Pinoy Music (OPM) from disco to Pinoy Pop (P-Pop) through a curated playlist spanning decades of beloved Filipino pop.

Amid the summer heat, the Philippine booth offered Philippine summer staples to beat the heat, such as the classic halo-halo, iced fruit shakes, cassava cake, and rice cakes. The booth also featured Philippine-made products and souvenirs such as Yakan pouches, Philippine shirts, pearl jewelry, dried mangoes, and coffee from Batangas and Banawe.

The ACBA’s annual ASEAN Bazaar is one of the group’s main programs to promote greater awareness of the ASEAN in Argentina. This year’s event was well-attended. END
