DHAKA, 30 March 2023 – At dusk, on 21 March 2023, Philippine Ambassador Leo Tito L. Ausan Jr. presented his Letter of Credence to the President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, His Excellency Abdul Hamid, during a ceremony held in Bangabhaban, the official residence of the President of Bangladesh. The occasion signifies his accreditation as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of the Philippines to the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. 

The Presentation was preceded by a brief meeting with the Chief of Protocol, His Excellency Nayem Uddin Ahmed, and with the Foreign Secretary, His Excellency Masud Bin Momen. 

After the ceremonial parade and the playing of the “Lupang Hinirang”, Ambassador Ausan presented his Letter of Credence, as well as the Letter of Recall of his predecessor, to President Hamid. A brief discussion between President Hamid and Ambassador Ausan followed the ceremony, where they discussed potential areas for further cooperation between the Philippines and Bangladesh such as in the industries of pharmaceuticals, agricultural products, and jute products, among others. 

Ambassador Ausan also expressed his appreciation for having been appointed as the envoy of the Philippines at a time that marks the beginning of another half-a-century strong bilateral relations between the Philippines and Bangladesh. Ambassador Ausan also praised President Hamid’s role in the liberation of Bangladesh in 1971, to which the President mentioned that the Philippines provided its support to Bangladesh during its Liberation War and subsequently was among the first countries that recognized Bangladesh after it gained its independence. 

During the discussion, Ambassador Ausan mentioned that his coming to Dhaka at midnight on 25 February 2023, a day after the Philippines and Bangladesh commemorates their bilateral diplomatic relations, which is 24 February each year, will forever etch in his memory the importance and friendliness of the relations between the two countries.
