ABU DHABI 31 March 2023 — Vice Consul Aleah Gica of the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai, together with Office of Migrant Workers (OMW) Attaché John Rio Bautista, accompanied Philippine lawmaker, Cong. Ron P. Salo, Chairperson of the House Committee on Overseas Workers Affairs in his visit to a Tadbeer Service Center in Dubai on 17 March 2023.

The Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi coordinated with the UAE Foreign Ministry and UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) in the visit to a Tadbeer Service Center.

Tadbeer Centers are licensed and monitored by the UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) to comply with agreed standards on the recruitment of household service workers (HSWs).

The institutionalization of Tadbeer Centers was one of the deliverables discussed during the 3rd Meeting of the Philippines-UAE Joint Committee on Labor Cooperation, held in Manila on 02 March 2021, to protect the rights and welfare of household service workers.

Previously on 08 March 2023, Cong. Salo and Cong. Ma. Rachel Arenas, Chairperson of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, met with Philippine Ambassador to the UAE Alfonso A. Ver, Philippine Consul General in Dubai Renato Dueñas, and OMW Attaché Bautista, where the two members of Congress requested assistance in facilitating a visit to a Tadbeer Service Center, to see the facility and observe the process that HSWs go through.

According to Amb. Ver, "The visit of Cong. Salo at the Tadbeer Service Center in Dubai affirms the deep commitment of both the Philippines and the UAE to continue improving the ways by which we protect the welfare of Overseas Filipinos. From legislation to implementation, the two countries continue to work together closely to ensure that the rights and welfare of our kababayans are always upheld. The Philippine Embassy and the Consulate here in the UAE, hand in hand with the OMWs in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, will always be vigilant in fulfilling the mandate given to us." END
