PH Embassy in Bahrain Joins Philippine Navy at Decommissioning Ceremony for Two Naval Vessels for the Philippines

MANAMA 03 April 2023 — The Philippine Navy led by Rear Admiral Renato P. David, Philippine Fleet Commander, attended the Decommissioning Ceremony of the USS Monsoon (PC4) and USS Chinook (PC9) and the turnover of the two patrol ships from the US Navy to the Philippine Navy at the US Naval Support Academy II at Wharf Mina Salman in Bahrain on 28 March 2023.

The USS Monsoon and USS Chinook, commissioned by the US Navy on 22 January 1994 and 28 January 1995, respectively, were the last of the 14 Cyclone Class Patrol Craft (PC) decommissioned by the US Navy. The two vessels were turned over to the Philippine Navy through the Excess Defense Article Program of the United States.

During the ceremony, the accomplishments of the USS Monsoon and USS Chinook, and its officers and crew, were honored.

In his remarks, RADM David welcomed the opportunity for the Philippine Navy to acquire the two vessels which are expected to boost the maritime assets of the Philippine Navy and enhance the maritime defense capabilities for the Philippines.

Ambassador-designate Anne Jalando-on Louis, together with Consul Bryan Jess T. Baguio, Attaché Jeymar A. Cabrera, Captain Mateo G. Carido, AFP Senior National Representative (AFPSNR) to the Combined Maritime Forces (CMF), and Commander Crispin E. Malibiran, AFP Assistant SNR, also attended the above event. END
