PH Defense Attache Briefs Embassy on UAE National Defense College Visit to PH, Strengthened UAE-PH Defense Ties

ABU DHABI 03 April 2023 — Philippine Ambassador to the UAE Alfonso A. Ver received a briefing on 31 March 2023 from Defense Attaché Col. Cesar Fernandez whom he designated to accompany a 20-member delegation from the UAE National Defense College, led by a high-ranking UAE Armed Forces official and students of said institution. The UAE delegation called on the Philippine Senate, the Department of National Defense (DND), the Department of Foreign Affairs, the National Defense College of the Philippines (NDCP), and met with the academe including the UP Asian Centre and the Ateneo de Manila, among others.
Amb. Ver congratulated Col. Fernandez on the success of the mission, and said, "The success of this visit paves the way for Philippines-UAE bilateral cooperation to further expand, as strengthened strategic and defense ties present huge opportunities that would further bind together and mutually benefit our two peoples and nations. The UAE is showing the way, for example through its COP28 hosting, that countries should stand together and find the means to address global challenges. This visit is the start of closer defense ties, at a time when the Philippines and the UAE are finalizing an MOU on Defense that should be signed soon, hopefully within the year." END
