MADRID, 04 April 2023 – Filipino nurses working in Madrid held an intensive training course on 01 April 2023 at the Philippine Embassy to assist other Filipino nurses who are pursuing recognition of their nursing diplomas that would allow them to practice their profession in Spain.

The course was organized by Ms. Edzel Lamparero López, who works as Hospital Nursing Supervisor in Hospital Hestia Madrid, and gathered those who were already practicing their profession as nurses to serve as resource speakers during the six-hour long training course, which was attended by 89 Filipino nurses.

Topics covered during the course were blood extractions and dextrose therapy, geriatric assessment, cure patches, conducting glucometer tests, vital signs and ECG, night shift work and charting. The resource speakers instructed the nurses on technical terms in Spanish, to familiarize those pursuing their diploma recognition with the proper jargon.

In support of the active engagement of nurses within the Community, Post provided lunch for the group.  Ambassador Philippe J. Lhuillier thanked the nurses for their exceptional bayanihan spirit, which was evident during the training, with resource speakers and participants in lively interaction over the topics covered.

Over sixty (60) other nurses have indicated interest to participate in the next intensive training course, which will be held on 29 April at the Embassy, and will cover the same topics. The nurses are also planning to hold another meeting to discuss the step-by-step procedure of diploma recognition to guide those who would like to practice their profession in Spain. END
