CARSON CITY 11 April 2023 — Philippine Consul General to Los Angeles Edgar Badajos on 04 April 2023 paid a courtesy call on Carson City Fil-am Councilmember Arleen Bocatija Roxas at the latter’s office in Carson City hall.

Councilmember Rojas represents Carson City’s District 4, an area with over 22,000 residents out of whom about 30 to 40 percent are of Filipino descent. Still an active Police Officer with 31 years of service at the Los Angeles Police Department, she ran and won a seat in the City Council thereby becoming only the second female Filipino-American Councilmember since 1993. Councilmember Rojas also holds the distinction of being the first female Filipino-American Police Officer in the history of the Los Angeles Police Department.

During the courtesy call, Consul General Badajos and Councilmember Rojas discussed ways of further strengthening people-to-people and cultural ties between the Consulate and the City of Carson. Carson City is home to one of the largest concentrations of Filipino-Americans in Southern California. The international garden in its sprawling Civic Center is the site of a life-size monument of Philippine national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal. Fil-Ams in the city, with the active participation and support of Consulate and Carson City officials, annually hold a major National Day celebration at the Rizal monument. END
