MEXICO 13 April 2023 — The Philippines Embassy in Mexico, with concurrent jurisdiction over Cuba, assisted the delegation led by Governor Rodolfo T. Albano III of Isabela and Governor Susan Yap of Tarlac, who conducted a trade mission to Cuba from 19 to 22 March 2023.

The heads of delegation said the visit opened the channels of communication with the Cuban Government and the Chamber of Commerce of Cuba to explore possible cooperation in areas of mutual interest, such as trade and investment, agro-alimentary, energy, public health, and people-to-people exchange.

The government officials and business leaders of Cuba welcomed and encouraged interested individuals and companies from the provinces of Isabela and Tarlac to consider doing joint ventures on the above sectors, following the approval of a law in 2022 allowing foreign investment in domestic wholesale and retail trade for the first time since 1959.  With these partnerships they hope to expand and diversify product supply and contribute to the recovery of the domestic industry.

In 2022, Cuba ranked as the Philippines’ 101st trading partner (out of 230) with total trade amounting to USD 8.83 million. END
