PH Consulate General in Vancouver Attends Inauguration of Third Potato Corner Store in B.C.

VANCOUVER 19 April 2023 – Philippine Consul General to Vancouver Arlene T. Magno graced the grand opening of Potato Corner’s third branch in British Columbia on 17 April 2023.

This new Potato Corner store is located at the food court of the Aberdeen Centre in Richmond, British Columbia.  Also present to assist with the grand opening were MLA Mable Elmore, a Filipino-Canadian Member of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia and Parliamentary Secretary for Anti-Racism Initiatives to the Attorney General, and Ms. Ma. Andrea Isabelle Ziga-Garcia, daughter of the owner of the Potato Corner franchise in British Columbia. Other attendees to the event were relatives and friends of the owners, members of the media and invited food vloggers.

In her message before the guests, Consul General Magno reiterated the continuous support of the Philippine Consulate General for Filipino-owned businesses and Filipino brands, such as Potato Corner.  As the Filipino community continues to grow in B.C., especially with the recent upswing in Filipino international students in Canada, she looked forward to a similar burgeoning of Fil-Canadian establishment, commensurate to the size of our presence in Canada.  Through Potato Corner, CG Magno hoped to strengthen people-to-people ties with Canada, connected by a shared passion for good food and a common fondness for potatoes.

Potato Corner BC actively participates in the Consulate’s economic diplomacy flagship events, such as “Proudly Philippines” in June, "Manila Comes to Town” Filipino Food Truck Festival held at the end of August and “Maligayang Pasko, Vancouver!” in December. END
