PH Embassy in Brunei Visits Marine Vessel Amarco at Kuala Belait Port

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, 28 April 2023 – The Philippine Embassy in Brunei's Economic Team led by Third Secretary and Vice Consul, and Economic Officer Jacqueline L. Ong, Assistant Economic Officer Alec Chrisanti A. Arenas, and Transportation Officer Ruel T. Barreto visited Marine Vessel Amarco at the Kuala Belait Port in Brunei Darussalam on 20 April 2023. The visit forms part of the Philippine Embassy's efforts to explore Brunei’s potential as a maritime corridor, prospectively new routes to promote direct trade and investment between Mindanao and Palawan to Brunei Darussalam and create more economic opportunities for both Filipinos and Bruneians. 

Officials of the Brunei Economic Development Board including Mr. Teo Boon Wah, Mr. Hj Yussof Hussin, Ms. Andrea Shakira Tay, and Ms. Nuramalina Abdullah. and executives of the private company BellAziz Holdings/Rukun Al Yaqeen International Mr. Zakariah Aziz and Mr. Rahimin Aziz were also present during the visit onboard the 45- meter MV Amarco that examined the vessel's capacity to coast around Brunei’s waters to transport goods and evaluated the Kuala Belait Port’s facilities to handle cargo. 

MV Amarco’s team has three Filipinos onboard, Marine Cadet Mr. Nejl Mehrvin Umiten, Petroleum Engineer Mr. Jay Aluba, and Engine Mechanic Mr. Dominador Ganaban, along with four Indonesians and two locals. The Filipino seafarers shared their good working conditions and welfare onboard the vessel and the embassy team took the opportunity to assure them of the Philippine government's commitment in promoting their welfare and protection while working overseas. END
