CALGARY, 28 April 2023 – Philippine Consul General to Calgary Zaldy Patron has hosted several officials of the Alberta Government to promote the ongoing 2nd Filipino Restaurant Month in Canada (FRMC) this April 2023.

Advanced Education Minister Demetrios Nicolaides was Consul General Patron’s main guest at a luncheon event he organized at the Chopstix Filipino Restaurant in Calgary on 01 April to mark the start of the 2nd FRMC.  Eighty (80) members of the Filipino community attended the event to show their support for the FRMC.

On the other hand, Deputy Mayor Tanya Foubert of Canmore and the town’s Chief Administrative Officer Sally Caudill were present at the dinner event that Consul General Patron held at Kain Tayo Restaurant on 13 April.  Joining them were some members of the Canmore Filipino Canadian Society.

On 26 April, Consul General Patron was in Edmonton, the capital of Alberta, to host a lunch reception for Chief of Protocol Shannon Haggarty and five other officials of the Protocol Office of the Alberta Government. The luncheon was held at Max’s Restaurant in Edmonton.

Later that day, Consul General Patron hosted a dinner at Filistix Restaurant in Edmonton for three officials of the Executive Council-International Relations of the Alberta Government, led by Assistant Deputy Minister for International Relations Tristan Sanregret.

Likewise, Consul General Patron hosted the new Honorary Consul of Romania Brad Mitchel on 21 April at the Pacific Hut Restaurant in Calgary.

“I am glad to have introduced the Filipino cuisine and the Filipino restaurants to our friends in the Alberta Government through the FRMC,” said Consul General Patron.

The 2nd FRMC will run until 30 April 2023 with the participation of 47 restaurants in 19 cities and eight provinces across Canada.

A joint project of the Philippine Embassy in Ottawa, the Philippine Consulates General in Calgary, Toronto, and Vancouver, the Philippine Department of Tourism, and the Philippine Department of Trade and Industry, FRMC aims to promote and mainstream the Filipino cuisine in Canada, support the Filipino restaurants, highlight the talents of the Filipino chefs, and encourage the use of more Philippine-made cooking ingredients in the Canadian households.

Every order of the FRMC prix fixe menu at any of the participating restaurants will entitle diners to a free raffle entry that will give them a chance to win major prizes, such as two (2) roundtrip domestic plane tickets in the Philippines, 3D/2N hotel accommodation in five (5) hotels in the Philippines, a CAD500 travel voucher for travel to the Philippines, a culinary tour in the Philippines, and gift certificates to Seafood City.

The minor prizes include dining certificates to the 47 participating restaurants and a CAD100 travel voucher. END
