Filipino Comic Book Artist Featured at Calgary Comics and Entertainment Expo

CALGARY 08 May 2023 – A Filipino artist was among the guest artists featured at the recent Calgary Comics and Entertainment Expo, also known as Calgary Expo, that was held on 27-30 April 2023 at the Stampede Park in Calgary.
Mr. Dennis Crisostomo of Bonnyville, Alberta, put up a booth during the four-day event that showcased the various drawings he has done for several projects.
As a comic book artist, Mr. Crisostomo has done projects for various publishers in the US, both mainstream and independent, like Marvel Comics, Dynamite Comics, Devils Due, Majesco Ent, Del Rey, and many more on titles like Xtreme Xmen, Superior Carnage, Vampirella, Emma Frost, Legend of the Drizzt, and Dark Wraith of Shanarra.
He is also an illustrator for card collectible companies in the US, like Upper Deck, Cryptozoic, Breygent and Rittenhouse for titles like Xmen, Iron Man, Batman, Justice League, Walking Dead, Marvel 50th Anniversary, and Women of Marvel.
The Calgary Expo is the latest in the list of comic events and conventions in the Philippines, US, and Canada that he has joined.
Mr. Crisostomo was involved in the launch of Filipino graphic novels in New York Comic Con and L.A Comic Con. Likewise, he took part in the production of many book titles, like Pedro Penduko (new version), Osyana, and Habagat, and retold new stories of Maria Makiling and Bernardo Carpio.
Consul General Zaldy Patron visited Mr. Crisostomo in his booth on 29 April 2023 to show his support for the Filipino artist who only arrived in Alberta in November 2022.
“I am glad to see Mr. Crisostomo’s artworks featured at the Calgary Expo as he represents the large pool of creative Filipino comic book artists that we have in the Philippines and overseas,” said Consul General Patron.
The Philippine Consulate General (PCG) in Calgary, under the leadership of Consul General Patron, has been promoting and supporting the Filipino artists in Alberta and Saskatchewan, the two Canadian provinces under the PCG’s consular jurisdiction.
According to news reports, more than 100,000 science fiction, supervillains, superheroes, and comic book enthusiasts visited the Calgary Expo this year, with another 16,000 attending the parade held on 27 April 2023. END
