PH Ambassador Reads “Alamat ng Pinya” to Grade 1 Students of Preparatory School of Islamabad (PSI)

ISLAMABAD, 09 May 2023 – In line with the National Literature and Filipino Food Month Celebrations, the Philippine Embassy, headed by Ambassador-designate Maria Agnes M. Cervantes, conducted a book reading activity featuring “Ang Alamat ng Pinya” (The Legend of the Pineapple) to Grade 1 Students of Preparatory School of Islamabad (PSI), on 28 April 2023 at the Philippine Embassy Chancery Auditorium.
The activity was attended by seventy (70) grade one students and six (6) teachers from Preparatory School Islamabad (PSI), all Embassy personnel and its attached agencies. The Embassy prepared an English version of the Filipino children’s story Ang Alamat ng Pinya and facilitated an interactive book reading to said students.
The activity was engaging for the students as pineapple was not a common fruit in Pakistan and they only know of the tropical fruit in its processed form, i.e. canned and juice version. It also served as an opportune introduction of the Philippines as a country as most of the students have no prior knowledge about the Philippines.
After the book reading activity, the students were able to enjoy Filipino snacks and beverages such as sweet bread balls, kropek (fish crackers) and kamote maruya (sweet potato fritters), paired with sago’t gulaman(sweetened beverage with gelatin and tapioca pearls) and/or special milk pineapple juice.
