PH Consulate General in Calgary, College of Registered Nurses Alberta Hold Online Briefing on New Streamlined Process in Obtaining Nursing Permit

Calgary

CALGARY 09 May 2023 – The Philippine Consulate General (PCG) in Calgary and the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA), in partnership with the Philippine Canadian Nurses Association (PCNA) and the Alberta Association of Nurses (AAN), conducted an online briefing on 28 April 2023 on the new streamlined process in obtaining a nursing permit in Alberta for Filipino Internationally Educated Nurses (IEN).

Philippine Consul General to Calgary Zaldy B. Patron welcomed the CRNA’s new streamlined process, which is aligned with the PCG’s advocacy for the easier recognition of credentials of the Filipino nurses in Alberta.

In 2021, the PCG started lobbying and advocating with the Alberta Government to recognize the NCLEX-RN test results of the Filipino nurses who took the exam in Manila.

Mr. Greg Loveday, CRNA Executive Director for Strategy & Operations, gave a detailed presentation on the new streamlined process in obtaining Alberta nursing permit, which  CRNA has put in place starting 04 April 2023.

CRNA has now simplified the process by providing faster turnaround time and reducing the complexity and cost of obtaining a nursing permit in Alberta

As a significant milestone, CRNA now recognizes the NCLEX-RN as evidence of competency of the IEN.

Those who have already passed the NCLEX-RN exam and those who want to write the exam can already apply directly to CRNA, if they wish to obtain a nursing permit in Alberta.

For NCLEX-RN passers, applicants must still meet the following requirements to obtain the nursing permit: currency of practice, good character, fitness to practice, jurisprudence, liability insurance, and payment. CRNA will issue the nursing permit to IEN who have submitted worldwide registration or verification of education requirements, together with proof of passing the NCLEX-RN.

For those who want to write the NCLEX-RN Exam, CRNA can issue them the Authorization to Test (ATT) upon verification of their education. Applicants can write the exam in any global location (including in Manila) after receiving the ATT. They are allowed to have three attempts to pass the exam.

The PCG encourages the Filipino IEN who are interested in practicing their nursing profession in Alberta to watch the CRNA’s presentation from this link: https://fb.watch/kjGdOVq8oK/. END
