BEIJING, CHINA, 16 May 2023 – The Philippine Embassy in Beijing celebrated the Filipino Food Month (“Buwan ng Kalutong Pilipino”) with the conduct of the whole-day event entitled “Uncover the Taste of the Philippine Islands” held at the Philippine Embassy premises on 29 April 2023.

The event was hosted and organized by the representative offices of the Philippine Department of Tourism in Beijing (PDOT-Beijing) and the Agricultural Counselor in China (OAC), showcasing the rich culinary heritage of the Philippines and highlighting our country’s diverse and flavorful dishes. It also aimed to deepen the understanding of Philippine culture through food and gastronomy.

Over 400 guests and participants were treated with fun and interactive activities that included exhibits, food displays, food tasting, cooking demonstrations, parlor games, performances by the Filipino communities (i.e., live bands, dance numbers, Filipino martial arts, etc.), and raffle draws.

During his welcome remarks, Ambassador Jaime A. FlorCruz underscored that the national celebration of the Filipino Food Month (FFM) this year aims to appreciate, preserve, promote, and ensure the transmission of the vast Filipino culinary traditions and treasures to the future generation.  Under the theme of “Pagkaing Sariling Atin, Mahalin at Pagyamanin!” (Our Food, Love and Enrich it!), the FFM is likewise poised to support various industries, farmers, fishermen, and agricultural communities in the country.

Quoting President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., who is also the concurrent Agriculture Secretary, Ambassador FlorCruz expressed: “Aside from highlighting our rich culinary tradition, may the FFM event this year provide a platform to acknowledge the role of our local communities especially our farmers, fisherfolk, and other sector involved in food production, the culinary industry, and national food security.” This year’s FFM underscores the Philippine Government’s support to the Philippine agriculture sector, aiming to achieve food security and accessibility through appropriate technology and research, and adequate financial, production, marketing, and other support services.

Key partners from media, travel agencies, and other industry players of China’s travel and leisure activities attended the event. END
