Second Season of Million Dollar Island Filmed in Palawan Airs in The Netherlands’ TV Channel SBS6

THE HAGUE, 22 May 2023 – Palawan is becoming more known and popular in The Netherlands and Belgium as it is again the coveted backdrop for the ongoing second season of "Million Dollar Island," an enthralling survival series shown on Dutch television. 

"Million Dollar Island" is a popular Dutch reality TV series that challenges the participants to survive and build friendships as they tackle various challenges which test their wits and abilities. The second season is participated by 50 Dutch and 50 Belgian men and women who try to survive on the island for 60 days and will have the chance to win one million euros. It airs every Sunday at 8:30 PM in the Netherlands’ SBS6 channel and is also available for viewing on Amazon Prime Video, an hour after its broadcast on SBS6. 

Melanie Rijkers, a Dutch participant in Million Dollar Island Season 1, said “The flight is breathtaking, what a beautiful nature and ocean below us. We look our eyes out… Welcome to Palawan, an area with the most beautiful reefs, especially known by divers.” In a Facebook comment, a viewer remarked “the show makes me want to visit Palawan and experience the pristine beaches in the Philippines!” 

"The second season of Million Dollar Island manifests the captivating beauty and allure of Palawan not just to the Dutch and Belgians who experience it firsthand through the series, but also to viewers across Europe,” Philippine Ambassador to The Netherlands J. Eduardo Malaya said. 

Palawan has also played host to an impressive array of renowned international productions, including the "Bourne Legacy," "Crazy Rich Asians," "HBO's Westworld," "Survivor Series," and "Expedition Robinson."

The production team from Monday Media Productions, including Ms. Geraldine Lamberta Smink and Mr. Gerard Bernard Oostveen, visited Post in February 2022 at the start of the filming for the show’s first season.

Tourist arrivals from The Netherlands have grown by an average of 10% per year from 2015 to 2019, with 41,313 visiting in 2019 before the pandemic. Thirty percent of Dutch travelers are repeat visitors. Things most liked by the Dutch tourists about the Philippines are beautiful sceneries and nice beaches and the warm hospitality and kindness of Filipinos. Top destinations are Manila, Bohol, Cebu, Vigan, Banaue and Palawan, among others.
