PH Embassy in London Celebrates National Literature Month

LONDON, 25 April 2023 – In celebration of National Literature Month, the Philippine Embassy in London hosted an event entitled “Isang Panahon-Tropical Narratives, Reimagined” at Sentro Rizal London on 20 April 2023.

The program, in collaboration with the National Book and Development Board (NBDB), featured short talks and readings of Filipino poets from the Philippines and the UK. The conversations and poetry readings centered around hope and finding it in poetry and literature, as well as about community, as people gather to share stories and experiences.

In his welcome remarks, Philippine Ambassador to the United Kingdom Teodoro L. Locsin, Jr. hailed Filipino authors and poets for their efforts in fostering a richer and a deeper understanding of Philippine writing and the Filipino experience. He likewise congratulated NBDB for the Philippines’ participation in the London Book Fair 2023.

NBDB Executive Director Charisse Aquino-Tugade gave a talk and performance on decolonizing reading which was followed by talks and poetry readings by young poets namely, Mr. Kristian Sendon Cordero, Mr. Jason Tabinas and Dr. Jaya Jacobo.

London-based Lahing Kayumanggi Dance Company provided entertainment with their rendition of a medley of Filipino folk dances.

The event was attended by members of the Filipino community. Rep. Samuel S. Verzosa, Jr., Miss World Philippines 2022 Gwendolyne Fourniol and influencer Tim Yap were also in attendance. END
