STOCKHOLM, 23 May 2023 – Philippine Ambassador to Sweden Maria Lumen B. Isleta, led the Philippine Delegation during the European Union’s 2nd Indo-Pacific Ministerial Forum (IPMF) held on 13 May 2023 in Stockholm, Sweden.
The event in Stockholm follows the successful inaugural Indo-Pacific Ministerial Forum held in February 2023 in Paris, France.
The second iteration of the event was participated by the EU and its Member States, the European Investment Bank, 26 Indo-Pacific countries and several regional organizations. EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy / Vice-President of the European Commission Mr. Josep Borrell Fontelles and Swedish Foreign Minister Mr. Tobias Billström served as co-chairs of the Indo-Pacific Ministerial Forum.
The participants were divided into three groups for the Roundtables Sessions, which discussed the following topics: (i) Building more sustainable and inclusive prosperity together; (ii) Pursuing green opportunities and overcoming global challenges; and (iii) Facing jointly the evolving security landscape in the Indo-Pacific.
The Philippines participated in the third Roundtable and underscored the importance of cooperation in the fields of maritime security, climate change; and marine pollution. The Philippines also stressed the importance of respect for international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and the 2016 Arbitral Award. END
