PH Gallery Vinyl on Vinyl Participates in 4th Edition of JustLx2023 at Art Week Lisbon
LISBON, 29 May 2023 – The Lisbon art scene welcomed the Manila-based art gallery Vinyl on Vinyl during the ongoing Art Week Lisbon on 26 May 2023.
Vinyl on Vinyl Gallery owners Gaby dela Merced and Pia Reyes briefed Philippine Ambassador Celia Anna M. Feria on their participation in this year’s participation in Art Week Lisbon, which featured 28 gallery, solo, and institutional exhibitors from Spain and Portugal. Vinyl on Vinyl was the only exhibitor from the Philippines.
Vinyl on Vinyl brought with them works from 5 Filipino artists: Reen Barrera, Dennis Bato, Pinky Ibarra Urmasa, Iyan de Jesus, and Teo Esguerra, as well as Japanese artist Akira Miyamoto. From the response of the art public visiting the lone Philippine booth, it was apparent that Vinyl on Vinyl’s choice of art pieces made a lasting impression on them.
Vinyl on Vinyl, as their website explains, was established in 2009 born out of the desire to bring greater awareness of and appreciation for what was then considered an underground culture. Today, they continue to influence the course of Philippine art history by opening up new genres, taking intuitive risks, and pushing boundaries.
In her conversation with Mr. Oscar Garcia Garcia, Director for JUSTLX 2023, Ambassador Feria, accompanied by Ms. Yael Buencamino Borromeo, curator of the Philippine Pavilion at the Venice Arte Biennale, invited him to visit the Philippines and see for himself the thriving art scene in the Philippines, manifested in the many art galleries and art fairs happening all over the country.
The JUSTLX 2023 art fair is committed to focusing on new galleries and emerging artists, as well as contributing to the visibility of the Portuguese art scene. It is also committed to making art accessible and bringing it closer to a new generation of collectors. END
