PH Consulate General Holds Labor Seminar with Filipinos in Barcelona

BARCELONA CITY, 26 May 2023 – The Philippine Consulate General in Barcelona conducted a seminar on labor issues with Filipinos in Barcelona on 26 May 2023 at the Consulate General’s Hall.
With the invited speaker Atty. Manuel Silva, an immigration and Spanish labor law expert, the seminar discussed the application procedures for “arraigo social”, a regularization procedure by which a foreigner who has lived in Spain continuously for three years can obtain residency in the Spanish territory.
“We held this seminar recognizing the aspirations of our kababayans working or staying here in Spain yet mindful of the immigration procedures that are set before them. It is also befitting to hold such an event on the occasion of honoring our overseas workers in the month of May, particularly discussing matters confronting their work and stay in Barcelona, and empowering them with the right information on their privileges and responsibilities in this country,” said Consul General to Barcelona Maria Theresa S.M. Lazaro.
A total of 45 Filipinos, mostly new in Spain and working in the household and hospitality service industries, participated in the seminar. “Armed with the right information and dispelling misinformation, we become more confident with our ongoing and future stay in Barcelona,” said one of the overseas Filipino participants.
The Consulate General shall offer more labor seminars and forum to Filipinos under its jurisdiction, including Catalonia, Aragon, Balearic Islands, Valencia Community and the Principality of Andorra.
