PH Envoy Highlights Equity and Inclusion in Global Norms-Building on Human Rights and New Technologies at Glion Dialogue in Switzerland

GENEVA, 31 May 2023 – Philippine Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva Ambassador Evan P. Garcia attended the Glion Human Rights Dialogue in Montreux from 25 to 26 May 2023. The Dialogue is organized annually by the Universal Rights Group and selected sponsors as a multistakeholder event involving diplomatic missions, international organizations, civil society, academe, and others. 

The theme for this year was Technology and Human Rights. Ambassador Garcia, in his interventions, stressed the urgency of appreciating the needs and perspectives of the Global South in the rapidly evolving field of new and emerging technology (NET), which impacts Human Rights worldwide. He said full account must be taken of the issues of development, equity, inclusion, and representation in global rule- and norm-making in this crucial endeavor to make technology safer for all peoples.
