Philippine Embassy in Portugal Holds Linggo sa Embaxaida Program Featuring Info Session on Portuguese Immigration Law
LISBON, 06 June 2023 - The Philippine Embassy in Portugal held its Linggo sa Embaixada program on 04 June 2023, which featured an information session on Portuguese immigration legal policies and procedures by Dr. Pedro Lourenço, a Portuguese lawyer based in Lisbon. The lecture on Portuguese immigration aimed to offer the Filipino community in Portugal comprehensive information and direction regarding immigration regulations and guidelines.
Philippine Ambassador to Portugal Celia Anna M. Feria welcomed the attendees and cited the importance of the lecture on Portuguese immigration for the Filipino community.
"Your presence shows that you want to learn and understand how the law works in Portugal when it comes to immigration. We know that figuring out the complicated rules of immigration can be challenging, so the Embassy would like to ensure you have access to accurate and up-to-date information to help you along the way," said Ambassador Feria.
During the lecture, Dr. Lourenço addressed a diverse audience comprising members of the Filipino community and Philippine Embassy officials. He discussed various topics related to Portuguese immigration, including visa types, residence permits, family reunification, and the rights and obligations of immigrants. He also provided valuable insights into the legal requirements and procedures for acquiring and maintaining legal status in Portugal.
The lecture also addressed common immigration-related challenges and concerns the Filipino community faces. Dr. Lourenço provided practical legal advice on effectively navigating the Portuguese immigration system, equipping the attendants to make informed decisions, and safeguarding their rights as immigrants in Portugal.
Following an enlightening lecture by Dr. Lourenço, members of the Filipino community actively engaged in a fruitful discussion, raising insightful questions about various Portuguese immigration policies. The Q&A session allowed the Filipino community to seek clarifications and gain a further understanding of the legal immigration landscape in Portugal. Overall, it was a successful event that served as an essential resource for members of the Filipino community looking to make Portugal their second home.
Ambassador Feria presented a Certificate of Appreciation to Dr. Lourenço and thanked him for sharing his time, knowledge, and expertise on Portuguese immigration with the Filipino community.
The Linggo sa Embaixada program, which takes place on the first Sunday of the month, was conceptualized by Ambassador Feria in 2017 to provide complete consular services for those Filipinos who are unable to come to the Embassy during the weekdays due to work commitments. In addition, the said program has also been an avenue to organize seminars and activities on various topics of interest that would help empower Filipinos to be responsible and productive residents in Portugal by improving their livelihood and well-being.
