Bangkok Sanook Philippines1

20 June 2014 - The Philippine Embassy in Bangkok successfully held an exhibition of Philippine costumes and fashion, and food products from June 12 to 15 at CentralWorld in Bangkok, entitled, “สนุก (Sanook) Philippines: Philippine Fair 2014.”

The four-day event showcased the richness of Philippine culture and the variety of indigenous Filipino textiles and designs.  The Heritage Collection exhibited a variety of costumes and textiles from the Cordillera in the north, the central Philippines, non-Muslim and non-Christian peoples of Mindanao and Muslim Mindanao. The Collection also highlighted styles that were popular from the 1960s to the present.

To give a modern touch, the Ethnic Chic Collection showed how traditional textiles and designs have been adopted to contemporary tastes. Meanwhile, the Designer Collection presented creations of well-known Philippine fashion designers such as Rene Salud, Lulu Tan Gan, Dita Sandico-Ong, Patis Tesoro and Len Nepumoceno.

The unique textiles and costumes were presented against the backdrop of award-winning furniture by famous Philippine designers such as Kenneth Cobunpue, Budji Layug, and Anne Pamintuan,  among others.

Food products from the Philippines and from companies operating in Thailand were also featured.

The guests in the opening ceremony on June 12 included the Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, members of the diplomatic corps, movers and shakers of the Thai society, senior officers of CentralWorld-the third largest mall in the world—Filipino  community leaders and members of the Thai print and broadcast media.
