20 June 2014 - In observance of the birth anniversary of Dr. Jose Rizal, the Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles, in coordination with the Jose P. Rizal Monument Movement (JPRMM), celebrated the occasion with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Monument of the national hero at the International Sculpture Garden, City of Carson, California on June 13.
Philippine Senator Grace Poe was the event’s guest of honor. In her remarks, Senator Poe extolled the audience to emulate Dr. Rizal and to support the country’s nation-building efforts.
She spoke of the improving economy and efforts to end corruption under President Benigno S. Aquino III’s administration. She also praised the participation of the Filipino youth, from the Honor Guards to the performers, saying that it is important for the youth to learn to value and appreciate the rich history of the country as well as the teachings of Dr. Rizal.
The wreath-laying was attended by Carson City Mayor Jim Dear, Mayor Pro Temp Elito Santarina and Councilmember Mike Gipson. Also in attendance were the Jose P. Rizal Monument Movement (JPRMM), led by Chairman Chito Mandap of the Knights of Rizal, Kalayaan Inc. led by President Joveno De La Vega, and the Free Masons. END
