PH Consulate General Shows Support for the Performance of Multi-Awarded Flutist Rafael Adobas Bayog in the Conservatori Municipal Musica Barcelona

BARCELONA 20 June 2023 – Spanish-Filipino flutist Rafael Adobas Bayog, one of the most successful musical artists in Spain of Filipino descent, delivered a remarkable performance at the Conservatori Municipal Musica Barcelona on 18 June 2023. The evening showcased the young musician’s exceptional musical talents and cemented his status as a rising star in the world of classical music.
The Philippine Consulate General was on hand to support Mr. Adobas, with Vice Consul Lee Gano, Cultural Officer Bernardo Bagalay, Property Officer Katrina Nonan showing their support. Members of the Filipino community were also present during the event.
Rafael Adobas was born in Ibiza, Spain to Filipino parents who migrated to Spain. He has participated in numerous music competitions, some of which are the Carl Nielsen International Competition (3rd Prize Winner and Best Interpretation) and the 10th Kobe International Flute Competition (First Prize Winner). He is also the recipient of the 15th Ani ng Dangal Awards in the Music Category of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts given at the ceremonial hall of the Malacañang Palace in February 2023.
At 25, Mr. Adobas has performed in numerous concerts either as a solo performer or in collaboration with world-renowned resident orchestras in prestigious venues all over the world. Some of the orchestras he has performed with are Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Konzerthausorchester Berlin, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, Gürzenich Orchester Köln, Norrköping Symphony Orchestra and Augsburger Philharmoniker. In 2022, Mr. Adobas gave a solo recital at the Carnegie Hall in New York, supported by Siemens Arts Program.
Mr. Adobas hopes to inspire the young generation of musicians, especially second and third generation Filipinos to pursue their aspirations and achieve their goals. He is also grateful to his parents for supporting him in his dreams and hopes that other parents will do the same when their children exhibit the desire and talent to be accomplished musicians.
After the concert, Mr. Adobas intimated, “It warms my heart that a lot of our kababayan have come to see my performance. The support and smiles that I see from the audience members inspire me more to give the best in every performance”.
In contrast to all the black-colored attire worn by the orchestra members, Mr. Adobas proudly wore a white Barong Tagalog to signify his love for his roots and how proud he is to be a Filipino. END
