Convicted Filipino National Released from Adra Central Prison in Damascus

DAMASCUS 20 June 2023 – On 15 June 2023, a convicted Filipino national, was repatriated to the Philippines after she was released from the Central Prison of Adra for Women in Damascus, Syria.
Due to the mutual cooperation and the exerted efforts by the Philippine Embassy and the Syrian Authorities, the specialized criminal court of Damascus has issued the order to release the said Filipino national and to hand her over to the Philippine Authorities after the plaintiff dropped their right, and in compliance with both Presidential Amnesty Decree No. 20 of 2019 and No. 6 of 2020.
While waiting for the final approval of the Syrian Ministry of Interior, and processing the exit visa, she stayed at the Detention Center for Foreigners at the Immigration and Passport Department, where the ATN Team of the Philippine Embassy in Damascus visited her and provided the necessary assistance and care.
Before her departure, Philippine Chargé d’ Affaires to Syria John Gumapos Reyes together with the ATN Team proceeded to the International Airport of Damascus to meet and check on the OFW and wished her a safe travel.
On 16 June 2023, she arrived in the Philippines, and was received by IACAT, OWWA, and DSWD representatives. END
