Philippines Discusses Engagement in Peacekeeping Operations with UN Undersecretary-General

NEW YORK 22 June 2023 – Foreign Affairs Undersecretary for Multilateral Affairs and International Economic Relations Carlos D. Sorreta met with UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix at the United Nations headquarters in New York on 19 June 2023 to discuss Philippine engagement in UN peacekeeping operations.
Undersecretary Sorreta told Under-Secretary-General Lacroix about Philippine readiness for deployment in peacekeeping operations in cooperation with the United Nations.
Since the Philippines sent troops to Congo in 1963, Filipino peacekeepers have served in Cambodia, Timor-Leste, Kashmir, Syria, Golan Heights, Sudan, Burundi, South Sudan, Abyei, Darfur, Liberia, Cote d’Ivoire, Haiti, Kosovo and Georgia, and other UN-authorized missions in Korea, Iraq, Nepal, Lebanon and Afghanistan, cementing the Philippines’ continuing contribution for the pursuit for peace for six decades now.
