LOS ANGELES 16 June 2023 – The Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles launched the “Philippine Coffee Revolution” project during its second Philippine coffee-tasting event held at Teofilo Coffee Company in Los Alamitos, California, on 15 June 2023.
The project aims to make southern California a hotbed for Philippine coffee by convincing at least one (1) establishment (coffee shop, café, restaurant or retailer) per month to regularly carry Philippine coffee. The Consulate hopes that by February next year, at least twelve (12) new establishments will have PH coffee in their menu or on their shelves.
The project is a collaborative effort between the Consulate, EmPHorium, Teofilo Coffee Company and the Philippine Trade and Investment Center-LA. It is essentially a support structure for establishments who will carry Philippine coffee. The Consulate recognizes that establishments will not carry Philippine coffee based on the merits of quality alone as there are a multitude of good coffee varieties from different countries that they can otherwise use. By making the project more of an A-Z support structure model for their business, it is hoped that establishments will overcome any apprehensions they may have in carrying Philippine coffee products.

Around 30 participants from around Southern California representing Filipino-American, American food and beverage companies and retailers attended the event, up from the twenty participants who attended the first coffee-tasting in February. Philippine Consul General Edgar Badajos said, “Clearly, the Philippine coffee revolution is gaining traction among American coffee lovers.” He encouraged more American companies in the coffee business to join the Philippine coffee revolution.
