Ver (2nd from left), receives a courtesy call from 3 Filipino students in the UAE that have been chosen by the UAE’s Ministry of Interior (MOI) to take part in the UAE’s “Empowering Future Leaders Program 2023,” to be held in Geneva, Switzerland. The students, Raiza Laurice Santos (leftmost), Grade 9, Eric John Damolo (2nd from right) Grade 9, Tyler Chase Tacneng (rightmost) Grade 8 of The Philippine Global School (TPGS) Abu Dhabi, were lauded by Ambassador Ver as an excellent example for Filipino youth in the UAE and all over the world, of what the new generation of overseas Filipinos are capable of, with their leadership and skills. The Ambassador encouraged the students to learn more about their rich Philippine culture and heritage, and learn from the example of the Filipino heroes that sacrificed everything for a free and independent Philippines 125 years ago. Most importantly, Ambassador Ver urged them to learn from their parents their family’s own story, the struggles they faced abroad, their perseverance, for these stories to be their inspiration towards excellence in pursuing their dreams in the UAE. Ambassador Ver encouraged the parents to support their children’s interests and to nurture their talents and skills, with a special emphasis on STEM subjects given that the future occupations will be heavily dependent on science and cutting-edge new technologies. The Ambassador expressed pleasure in learning that among the interests of the students is sustainable development, which is an important priority for both the UAE and the Philippines, and is also timely, with the upcoming COP28 which the UAE will host.
